Late nights of staring at a computer screen were punctuated by head nods from sheer exhaustion both mental and physical. The nagging doubts inside me threatened to stop progress, but eventually through stubborn determination I would start typing, and somehow crank out nearly two-thousand words a night. Some days there was nothing I wanted more than to run away from the keyboard and curl up into a ball, but my bullheadedness served a useful purpose. I have no doubt that some nights I was writing material that I…

It appears that I’ve written 28,000 words in 16 days, which is 103 pages double-spaced in Times New Roman Size 12 font. The religious need to pound out ~1700 words a day has been incredibly difficult, involving a lot of staring at the screen trying to think of what to write when you know that you can’t leave until you get something down. On the other hand, it’s been very liberating. Personally I’ve had some difficulty not comparing myself to grander works that I greatly respect. I seem…

“Maybe it’s an eye watching a tiny world, a bird about to eat an insect, a spike being driven into a bosom. Or maybe it’s just a random scribble of lines that you followed to get here.” Published by Absolute XPress, this anthology contains “The Caddy”, the third story featuring Nestor Tark. A twisted gangster known as “The Caddy” has blackmailed Nestor into kidnapping a cat, a rarity in the Gelack Empire. It’s a Mission: Impossible style cat-smuggling story. “Sandra Fitzpatrick provided the idea for Opus 5 when…

It honors the theme of secrets rooted in the past that emerge to perturb people’s lives. Like other Okal Rel anthologies, the theme is drawn from one of…

“They were simply two men, one on the brink of eternity.” Published by Absolute XPress, this anthology contains “Nestor’s Gap”, the first story featuring Nestor Tark, where he discovers a Lorel device that has the power to read intentions and thoughts in soul-touch, upsetting the balance of secrets so necessary in the Gelack Empire. “The authors in this anthology have each approached the theme of ‘Pretenders’ from a unique and exciting perspective. The characters you are about to meet choose to hide or misrepresent their status, abilities, education,…

And so it begins, Nov. 1, the national novel writing frenzy that motivates authors all around the world to try and write 50,000 words in 30 days, an average of 1667 words per day. This is my first year attempting the tremendous feat, and I will be writing a cyberpunk novel… wish me luck! I’ll be posting about my progress and possibly a record of my sanity, or lack thereof, as the month progresses.
