Kirkpatrick-Baez X-Ray Microscope

The KB Microscope was the central focus of my Master’s thesis. I designed and refined it alongside my supervisor, Dr. Robert Fedosejevs, and Blair Harwood. It imaged the copper K-alpha X-Ray transition of experiments on the Titan Laser at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL). It required precise positioning of glancing-angle mirrors, and had the unique advantage of being adjustable from outside the vacuum chamber. It was successfully operated on several experimental campaigns and imaged some characteristics that couldn’t be observed with other similar¬†instruments.

The work was published in the Review of Scientific Instruments.

Software used: Autodesk Inventor.

Work done in 2008-2011.
